The course includes teaching on basic concepts and methods in structural chemistry particularly within the areas of X-ray crystallography and the interpretation and evaluation of results obtained by structure determinations. Interactive data bases for finding structural data and proper literature references are also utilised. Lectures, experimental work and exercises are integrated during the course.

Learning Objectives
Main targets are a basic knowledge of solid state symmetry properties and of the basic concept for structure determination from diffraction data and the analysis of the obtained structural data. Ability to understand and interact correctly with the information present in literature structural reports, with an understanding of the quality and possible limitations of those reports.
Skills acquired (at the end of the course):
Ability to employ symmetry operators in the description and study of structures with particular focus on the study of intermolecular and interatomic interactions.
